Gold Buffalo Bowie Knife

The American Buffalo Gold Bullion Coin was the first gold coin struck by the U.S. Mint to be composed entirely of .9999 fine gold (24k). Produced at the West Point Mint, these exquisite coins are amodified version of one of the most distinctive coins ever created: James Earl Fraser's beloved Buffalo Nickel.

When Fraser was creating his masterpiece in 1912, he wanted to design a cointhat could not be mistaken for currency from any other country, so he insisted on using images that were unmistakingly American. Raised in the Midwest, Fraser drew his inspiration from the American Plains of his childhood. His creation featured the all-American imagery of a Native American chief on the obverse and an American Bison on the reverse. The Buffalo Nickel - and subsequently the AmericanGold Buffalo - prove that Fraser's vision perfectly captured the spirit of the American West.

Ebony wood is one of the most valuable and expensive types of wood in the world. Its heartwoodis especially prized among artists and craftsmen because of its density and its rich, dark color. Ebony is so dense that it is known to sink in water. It is this tight, smooth texture that makes it ideal for musical instruments, intricate carvings, and - in the case of this exquisite knife — a truly breathtaking handle.

Now you can own this American Mint exclusive bowie knife featuring ebony wood grips inlaid on both sides with 24k gold-layered reproductions of the American Buffalo Gold Bullion Coin.
