The constellation Cassiopeia is named after an African queen from Greek mythology. In her vanity, she insulted the sea-god Poseidon who sent the sea beast Cetus for retribution. When Cassiopeia offered her daughter Andromeda as a sacrifice, the hero Perseus and his winged horse, Pegasus saved the princess and Cassiopeia was cast in the night sky. Comprised of 5 bright stars that form an "M," the constellation circles the North Star which forces Cassiopeia to spend half the night upside down as punishment.
