The English Rose
She was the daughter of an Earl, considered by some to be a commoner, but Diana Spencer was far from common. In 1981, the world was introduced to this beautiful kindergarten teacher when Prince Charles, heir to the British Throne, asked her to marry him. She had a silver platter full of the most exquisite rings from which to choose and she selected a stunning sapphire and diamond ring that has since become one of the most famous rings in the world. Four months later she became Diana, Princess of Wales as the two married in a ceremony witnessed by more than 750 million people worldwide. Together, they had 2 sons, William and Harry. Naturally shy, Diana overcame many obstacles - including her very public divorce in 1996 - and did so with a charm and grace that captured the hearts of everyone. Following the divorce, Diana immersed herself into charity work. She used her celebrity, as well as her ceaseless compassion, to raise awareness of AIDS and campaigned tirelessly for a worldwide ban on landmines. In 1997, the entire world mourned as Lady Diana died in a tragic accident. She will always be remembered as the Peoples Princess, beloved by all. Then in 2010, her eldest son Prince William proposed to Kate Middleton and presented her with his late mothers ring carrying on her legacy for another generation.
