Graduating from Columbia in 1983, Barack Obama became a community organizer in Chicago and then went on to earn his law degree from Harvard. After serving 8 years in the Illinois State Senate, he was elected to the U.S. Senate in 2004, and four years later, he became the first African-American President of the United States. During his first term, Obama signed into law economic stimulus legislation, the Affordable Care Act, and Wall Street reform. To serve his second term, Obama defeated Mitt Romney in the 2012 election.
The Barack Obama commemorative coin is minted to the highest quality "Proof" standard and features a highly detailed engraving of President and Democratic candidate for re-election Barack Obama on the obverse. Adapted from the Presidential Seal, an American Bald Eagle grasping arrows and an olive branch - symbolizing the strength to defend and a desire for peace - is depicted on the reverse.
