Queen Elizabeth II was born Princess Elizabeth Alexandra Mary on April 21, 1926, in London, England. When her father, Prince Albert, was unexpectedly made King in 1936, Elizabeth suddenly became heir to the throne of the entire British Empire. Upon her fathers death on February 6, 1952, she was crowned Queen Elizabeth II, Royal Sovereign of the United Kingdom. Her ascension to the world´s most famous throne came at a time when Great Britain was facing vast political and cultural changes. During her historic reign, she ruled with a dignified and calm demeanor that became a comfort to all her subjects, even as she and her family experienced unprecedented levels of media exposure. On September 9, 2015, Queen Elizabeth II surpassed her great-great-grandmother Queen Victoria´s record reign of
63 years and 216 days, making Elizabeth the longest-reigning monarch in British history. In June 2022, the entire world joined in the celebration of her Platinum Jubilee — an unprecedented 70 years on the throne!
On September 8, 2022, Queen Elizabeth II passed away peacefully at Balmoral Castle. Her death marked the end of an era as the world mourned the loss of one of the most admired and beloved monarchs in the history of British Empire.
