In 2005, Congress commissioned the U.S. Mint to create a series of coins honoring the United States Presidents, to be released in the order that they served. On November 18, 2010, the highly anticipated Abraham Lincoln Presidential Dollar was released to the public and sparked a frenzy among coin collectors all over the world. Although the Presidential Dollars were very popular among collectors, it was recently decided that, due to budgetary restraints, production of future Presidential Dollars will be limited. Beginning with Chester A. Arthur in the spring of 2012, only collectors willing topay a premium above face value will be able to purchase the U.S. Mint's Presidential Dollars for their collection.

On April 14, 1865, five days after the war ended, Abraham Lincoln was shot by John Wilkes Booth and died the next day but his legacy of leadership is forever cemented in American history.
