1000 Francs Swiss Banknote Commemorative Coin
For the past 100 years, one of the strongest currencies in the world has been the Swiss Franc. The national currency of both Switzerland and Liechtenstein, the Swiss Franc's stability is due primarilyto Switzerland's stable economy and neutrality in war. Printed for the first time in 1907, the Swiss Franc features a different size, color and design for each denomination to distinguish the value of the notes. The banknotes also feature the four national languages of Switzerland: Swiss German, Romansh, French, and Italian. Since their introduction, there have been eight different series, each based on a central theme. The most current series was designed by Jörg Zintzmeyer and was released starting in 1995. These brilliantly colored bills feature important personalities in the world of artand architecture. The 10-franc note features Charles Edourd Jaenneret (1887-1965), a master of modern architectural design. Arthur Honegger (1892- 1955), one of the century's greatest composers is honored on the 20-franc note. The 50-franc note features Sophie Taeuber-Arp (1889-1943), world-renowned abstract artist and key figure in the modern art movement. Alberto Giacometti (1901-1966), one ofthe greatest sculptors of the 20th century is portrayed on the 100- franc note. Author and literary genius Charles Ferdinand Ramuz (1878-1947) is featured on the 200-franc note. The distinguishedart and cultural historian, Jacob Burckhardt (1818-1897), is celebrated on the 1000-franc note. The son of a Basel clergyman, Burckhardt is accredited as the founder of modern art history. He is particularly famous for his academic guide to art "Der Cicerone", published in 1855, as well as his work on the Italian renaissance, and is regarded as a great academic writer.
