In 1901, the U.S government issued a unique ten-dollar banknote to celebrate the 100- year anniversary of Lewis and Clark’s famous western expedition. It featured portraits of Meriwether Lewis and William Clark flanking a beautiful engraving of an American Bison. Known as a “Bison Note,” it became an instant collector item for its remarkable artwork and the fact that it was the only banknote to mention the congressional act that authorized its creation.
