Product description
50 State Quarter® Program
Introduced in 1999, the U.S. Mint’s State Quarter Program honors each of the nation’s states in the order that they were admitted into the Union. Each state’s quarter was only produced for about 10 weeks and will never be produced again. The obverse features the familiar image of George Washington and the state designs are on the coin’s reverse.
The Pennsylvania quarter – which was the second coin in the series – features the outline of the state with an image of the statue known as “Commonwealth” which sits atop the state capitol building in Harrisburg. The keystone shape honors the state’s nickname, “The Keystone State.” The State motto “Virtue, Liberty, Independence” and 1787 – the year Pennsylvania became the second state in the union – complete the coin’s design.

America the Beautiful Quarters® Program
To capitalize on the incredible success of the 50 State Quarters® Program, the U.S. Mint introduced the American the Beautiful Quarter Program. Also known as the National Park Quarter Program, the series started in 2010 and honored U.S national parks and historic sites. With 5 new designs released every year, the series will have 56 quarters by the time it ends in 2019.
The Gettysburg National Military Park Quarter was released in 2011. Designated a National Military Park in 1895, it is the site of the bloodiest battle ever fought on American soil and the setting for Abraham Lincoln’s historic “Gettysburg Address.” The park is over 9 square miles of Civil War history and is well-known for its incredible monuments and memorials, including the 72nd Pennsylvania Infantry Monument, which is featured on the coin’s reverse.
