Product description
In 1933, America was in the grip of an economic depression. President Franklin D. Roosevelt's plan to stabilize the economy included banning private ownership of gold. His Executive Order called for every 1933 Gold Double Eagle coin to be melted into bars. Ten coins escaped this fate. The Secret Service was able to locate - and confiscate - nine of the ten coins. When the missing coin surfaced atauction in 2002, it sold for an amazing $7.59 million, making it the most expensive coin in numismatic history.
